The former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest in a ceremony that took place in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday July 15, 2025.
The burial, conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions, occurred in the courtyard of his private residence shortly after Janazah (funeral) prayers were held at a nearby prayer ground.
The event drew numerous dignitaries, family members, traditional leaders, and political figures from across the country, highlighting the significance of the occasion. During the farewell process, Buhari’s body, covered with the green, white, and green colors of the Nigerian flag, was transported to the gravesite by military pallbearers.
In honor of the former president, soldiers stood at attention and performed a final salute, accompanied by a military band playing solemn music and gun salutes as a tribute. The atmosphere at the burial was one of deep reflection and respect for Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 until 2023.
Prior to the burial, Buhari’s remains were flown in from London and welcomed at the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua International Airport in Katsina by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Governor Dikko Umar Radda, among other officials. His body was then transported to Daura under tight security.
