Manchester City has reportedly made an offer of €170 million (£147 million) to Chelsea to secure the return of Cole Palmer to the Etihad Stadium this summer. Cole Palmer was sold to Chelsea for £40 million in 2023 by the Citizens.
Since joining Chelsea, Cole Palmer has made a substantial impact, earning 12 caps for the England national team and contributing 37 goals and 19 assists in 70 Premier League appearances. This sale is now viewed as a significant error by Manchester City, prompting the club to pursue Palmer's return through a substantial financial offer.
According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Chelsea is heavily invested in Palmer's development and is optimistic about retaining him until the expiration of his contract in 2033.
Despite this, Manchester City is reportedly determined to re-acquire Palmer, understanding his potential to significantly enhance their project. The proposed transfer deal would surpass the existing British transfer record, which was recently established by Liverpool with the acquisition of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Chelsea now faces a critical decision: to either resist this lucrative offer or to allow Manchester City to reclaim one of its most promising talents. Palmer has also garnered attention from Paris Saint-Germain and recently showcased his exceptional skills in Chelsea's 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final, where he contributed two goals and an assist.
Following this impressive performance, several teammates expressed admiration for Palmer, with one asserting that he has emerged as "the best in the world." Liam Delap, a Chelsea teammate who joined the club this summer from Ipswich, remarked, "It was incredible. He is a world-class player, and today he demonstrated that."
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez affirmed, "Cole Palmer is the best in the world. If he is not the best currently, he is certainly on track to be within the next two to three years. He consistently demonstrates exceptional talent." Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto added, "He is somewhat reserved but is a very good person who knows when to contribute meaningfully. We have established a strong camaraderie, and it is a privilege to have such a talented individual on our team."
