President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his initial planned official visit to Kaduna Sttor to prioritize the pressing crisis in Benue State, where suspected Fulani herdsmen killed over 200 people in Yelewata a Township in Makurdi.
The visit to Benue is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to promote peace and address the conflicts affecting local communities.
The purpose of the President's visit is to acquire firsthand insights into the recurrent violence in the region, which has resulted in considerable loss of life and extensive property damage.
During his time in Benue, President Tinubu will engage with various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, political and religious representatives, community delegates, and youth organizations, to explore sustainable solutions to the prevailing issues.
In anticipation of this visit, President Tinubu has dispatched key officials to Benue State, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, as well as the Chairpersons of the Senate and House Defence Committees.
Moreover, President Tinubu intends to conduct a town hall meeting with stakeholders during his visit to encourage dialogue and collaboration.
He has previously denounced the violence occurring in Benue, urging leaders and residents alike to foster peace and understanding. Additionally, he has expressed his condolences to the families affected by the ongoing crisis.
The President’s originally scheduled visit to Kaduna State for the commissioning of various state government projects has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 19, 2025.
