The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council and Chairman of the Benue Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Maurice Orwough, conducted a visit to Uikpam today to express condolences to the families affected by the recent armed herdsmen attack that occurred late last night.
During his visit, Hon. Orwough also observed the arrival of redeployed military troops assigned to Uikpam. He was accompanied by the immediate past Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Yanmar Ortese, who is a member of the local community.
The Chairman extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and articulated his dissatisfaction with the persistent unrest impacting the region. He urged collaborative efforts from the community while assuring them of an enhancement in security measures.
He expressed gratitude to the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for providing essential support to address the crisis. Additionally, he conveyed his deep appreciation to the military for their significant cooperation and efforts in combating the actions of armed herdsmen.
Dr. Yanmar Ortese expressed his frustration regarding the ongoing situation affecting the community and surrounding areas within Guma. He urged the military to adopt a proactive approach to manage the crisis effectively.
Dr. Ortese also called upon the community to cooperate, emphasizing that Governor Alia's administration is diligently working to resolve the situation, alongside the efforts of the local government chairman.
The head of the military battalion, Lt. Col. Otoba, assured the Chairman, former Commissioner, and the community of the implementation of proactive measures to address the crisis. He affirmed that he and his team would remain committed to restoring peace within the community.
