JUST IN: Berger Alfred Emberga emerges speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly

Alfred Emberga Berger, representing the Makurdi North State Constituency, has been reinstated and elected as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly following a three-month suspension imposed on Friday August 22, 2025.

Berger's appointment as the 10th Benue State House of Assembly speaker comes barely after 48 hours of suspension for allegations concerning a plot to impeach his predecessor, Hycinth Aondona Dajoh, in the previous week.

Mr. Dajoh submitted his resignation on Sunday, August 24, 2025, during an emergency session held in Makurdi, Benue State, which was presided over by Deputy Speaker Lami Danladi. In a handwritten resignation letter addressed to the clerk and subsequently shared on his social media platform, Mr. Dajoh indicated that his decision was made "in good faith and in the best interest of the State." He entitled his post, "Let There Be Peace."
