The Nigerian army under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Tse Adudu, during a clearance operation aimed at dislodging criminals and Fulani herdsmen suspected of terrorizing farming communities in Benue State.

This operation, conducted on August 2, 2025, was initiated following credible intelligence received from local residents regarding illegal cattle grazing and the destruction of crops in Akpiti village, located in the Gbanga/Tongo council ward.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer for OPWS, the troops advanced swiftly on motorcycles into the agricultural settlement. Upon detecting the advancing soldiers, the suspected armed herdsmen reportedly fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning their cattle.

Further investigations in the area revealed the presence of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, all concealed in a makeshift hut.

Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism. He also acknowledged the critical role played by local residents in providing timely and accurate information, emphasizing that such collaboration is essential for achieving sustained peace and security in the region.

General Gara reiterated OPWS's commitment to restoring peace, promoting food security, and ensuring socio-economic stability in Benue and throughout the joint operations area. He urged the public to continue supplying actionable intelligence to security agencies.
