The Reverend Sisters of the Holy Rosary, based in Makurdi, on September 2, 2025, have reaffirmed their dedication to humanitarian efforts through the distribution of food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Yelwata, survivors of Fulani Herdsmen attack who are currently sheltered at the International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi.
This initiative represents the fourth intervention by the Sisters at this particular camp. The Camp Manager, Mr. Robert Nyom, received the items on behalf of the IDPs.
Mr. Robert Nyom, expressed gratitude for the generous donation and assured that the distribution process would be conducted fairly and transparently. He emphasized that the distribution would prioritize the most vulnerable groups, with assistance from the staff of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA).
Mr. Nyom articulated that such interventions not only provide immediate relief but also foster a sense of hope among displaced families who continue to face challenging living conditions within the camp. He acknowledged the significant role that faith-based organizations play in complementing government efforts to support IDPs.
This donation arrives at a critical time when humanitarian needs are elevated across various camps in Benue State, with food insecurity and other pressing challenges exacerbating the difficulties faced by the displaced population. The ongoing assistance from the Holy Rosary Sisters is thus considered a vital contribution to alleviating the hardships endured by affected individuals.
The Benue State Emergency Management Agency has persistently encouraged philanthropic individuals, groups, and organizations to follow this exemplary initiative to enhance current efforts aimed at providing for IDPs until sustainable solutions are realized.
