A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has tragically passed away due to severe burns sustained after an incident involving his wife, who allegedly ignited him during a domestic dispute in Akwa Ibom State.
The occurrence took place on September 22, 2025, at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area. Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama revealed this information in a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday.
According to sources referenced by Mr. Makama, Lieutenant Haruna, who served as a medical doctor and the Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion, engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna. It is alleged that during this altercation, she poured petrol on him and ignited it.
Lieutenant Haruna initially received treatment at the Military Reference Section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Despite the dedicated efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The wife accused of this act has been apprehended and is currently in custody as investigations into this tragic event continue.
