In Katsina State's Bakori Local Government Area, 45 people who had been abducted, including men and women from the Guga area in Doguwar Dorawa Fulani settlement and Gidan Danmayaki village, have been successfully released from captivity.
The release occurred on Monday, November 18, 2026, as part of ongoing dialogue and reconciliation efforts linked to the Operation Safe Corridor peace accord. Negotiations were facilitated through channels associated with a known bandit figure, Isiya Kwashen Garwa.
The freed victims were handed over in the early afternoon and promptly received by the lawmaker representing Bakori Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
They were subsequently transported to the Comprehensive Health Centre in Bakori for medical assessments to evaluate their well-being following an extended period in captivity.
Officials confirmed that the abducted have since been reunited with their families. Security agencies and local leaders continue to monitor the situation closely to sustain the peace process and mitigate the risk of future incidents.
