President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in Nigerian security training institutions, citing outdated facilities in the Police, Civil Defence, and other agencies.
This declaration specifically pertains to the training facilities utilized by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and various other internal security agencies.
The President emphasized the need for this intervention due to the current inadequacies of these facilities, which pose significant concerns regarding their overall effectiveness.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who chairs the ad-hoc committee of the National Economic Council (NEC) tasked with enhancing security training institutions, conveyed this information during a direct inspection of the facilities located in Lagos.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, in conjunction with the committee's secretary, former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, and Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, who oversees the Special Protection Unit (SPU), has announced that the committee has been granted 30 days to prepare a comprehensive report for the National Economic Council (NEC) to facilitate subsequent actions.
