The remains of Lt. Dr. Samson Haruna, a serving medical doctor with the Nigerian Army, were interred on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in Nyemdung Mangun village, Mangu LGA, Plateau State.

The officer's passing has sparked widespread concern across the country. It stemmed from a domestic altercation on September 22, 2025, inside the Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak LGA, Akwa Ibom State. According to accounts, Haruna suffered critical burn injuries during a dispute with his spouse, who is accused of pouring fuel on him and igniting it.

Initial treatment took place at the barracks' military medical facility, followed by referral to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. He passed away from his wounds on October 6, 2025, after weeks of specialized care.

The Army has initiated a probe into the event. In an official release, Capt. Lawal Bala Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, described it as domestic violence and urged families to prioritize harmony and mutual respect.

A native of Plateau State, the deceased served as Regimental Medical Officer for the 6 Battalion. He earned his commission from the Nigerian Defence Academy in September 2024 and wed his wife in April 2025, mere months prior to the incident.

The wife has rejected claims of deliberate harm, insisting the blaze was unintentional. She stated that her husband inadvertently struck a container of fuel amid their quarrel. She further claimed a history of physical mistreatment in the marriage, including a threat from him that her relatives should retrieve her. Authorities continue to hold her as inquiries proceed.
