The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of Nigeria has announced an extension of the deadline for the admission processes into public universities across the nation.
This announcement was made by the agency’s spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, during a press briefing on Sunday 2, 2025.
Originally, the deadline for public universities to finalize their admission processes was set for Friday, 31st October 2025, as established during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions on 18th July 2025, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON.
The allocated timeframe was designed to allow various tiers of tertiary institutions, including private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprises, to complete their own admissions before the overall deadline of 31st December 2025.
However, due to unforeseen circumstances, JAMB has decided to extend the completion deadline for the 2025 admissions to Monday, 17th November 2025. This extension is based on two primary factors:
1. An appeal from the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) regarding disruptions caused by a court ruling that maintained the previous state of affairs concerning the 2025/26 admission list until it was lifted on 28th October 2025.
2. A recent announcement by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 29th October 2025, which introduced a list of 229 newly accredited programs across 37 universities, necessitated the scheduling of admissions into these programs.
In light of these developments, JAMB aims to promote fairness and inclusivity in the admission process. The Board has emphasized that the new deadline is final and must be strictly adhered to.
