On June 18, 2025, during a live broadcast on AIT, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, expressed significant concern regarding the escalating incidents of violence and killings in the neighboring Benue State.
The governor made a fervent appeal to individuals engaged in criminal activities, urging them to cease their violent actions and pursue peaceful resolutions in the interest of regional stability and the sanctity of human life.
Governor Sule stated, “There exists no justification for the ongoing bloodshed. I fervently call upon those perpetrating these acts of violence to disarm and seek non-violent avenues for addressing grievances. We cannot sustain a society in which human life is treated with such disregard.”
He commended the efforts of the security agencies operating within Nasarawa State for their proactive measures and vigilance in mitigating the spread of violence across the regional border. According to the governor, recent intelligence-driven operations conducted by law enforcement and other security entities resulted in the apprehension of multiple suspects believed to be involved in the killings occurring in Benue.
Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Umar Nadada, confirmed that the suspects were detained during a coordinated operation along the Benue-Nasarawa border. He revealed that the suspects were found in possession of sophisticated weaponry, including AK-47 rifles, which were intended for use in subsequent attacks.
“Our security framework has been placed on high alert in response to the intensification of violence in Benue. During a recent collaborative patrol, our personnel intercepted and arrested individuals with strong connections to the attacks in Benue. They were apprehended with AK-47s and other lethal weapons. Ongoing investigations are in progress,” stated CP Nadada.
Governor Sule assured the public of his administration's unwavering commitment to peace and security, reiterating that Nasarawa State will maintain its collaboration with Benue and federal authorities to ensure that those accountable for the killings are brought to justice.
