The Tiv traditional rulers from Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State, on July 19, 2025, conducted a visit to offer condolences and express solidarity with the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are temporarily residing at the International Market in Makurdi.
This visit occurred in the wake of a severe attack by unidentified assailants that recently displaced people from Yelewata.
During the visit, the traditional rulers presented non-food items to the IDP camp, thereby demonstrating their commitment to supporting the affected people. Mr. Robert Nyom, the Camp Manager, extended a warm welcome to the traditional rulers and conveyed gratitude for their presence.

The traditional rulers expressed their appreciation to the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), particularly acknowledging Sir James Iorpuu Aondoakaa, PhD, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management/Benue SEMA, for the prompt humanitarian response to the Yelewata incident.
The IDP camp, which accommodates over 5,000 vulnerable people, is confronted with considerable challenges. The traditional rulers invoked divine intervention to alleviate the unnecessary difficulties faced by Benue State and advocated for sustained support for the IDPs.
Their visit and donations have provided renewed hope and solace to the affected individuals, and they commended the government's efforts to assist them during this challenging period.
