BSUTH Aliade Outreach Center Launches Free Medical Services (Photos)

The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi has initiated a complimentary medical outreach program at its newly established outreach center in Aliade, where more than 150 patients received consultations, medications, and surgical procedures at no cost.

This initiative represents a significant advancement in BSUTH’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to quality healthcare for underserved communities. The outreach exemplifies the hospital’s commitment to expanding its services and promoting healthcare accessibility.

The surgical procedures performed during this outreach included Herniorrhaphy, Hydrocelectomy, and Lipectomy, benefiting 27 patients. A team of skilled medical professionals from the hospital’s headquarters executed these procedures successfully, prioritizing patient safety and recovery.

Honorable Timothy Nyiakura Adi, Chairman of Gwer East Local Government, commended Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, for his visionary leadership. He articulated that the establishment of this center will help bridge the existing healthcare access gap within the region.

Furthermore, Hon. Adi acknowledged Governor Hyacinth Alia for his steadfast commitment to enhancing the state’s healthcare sector and urged the community to utilize the facility upon its full operational launch.

Chief John Wunde, the traditional ruler of the region, praised the initiative, characterizing it as a “game-changer” for community health. He expressed the traditional institution’s commitment to supporting the center's sustained success.

Mrs. Hope Ter-Akuta, the Head of General Administration at BSUTH and leader of the outreach team, remarked that this outreach event precedes the full operationalization of the center, confirming that personnel have been allocated in accordance with the hospital’s mission.

Beneficiaries expressed that the outreach was life-saving and extended their gratitude to Dr. Hwande for his impactful contributions. They offered prayers for his continued strength and wisdom in further transforming healthcare in Benue State.
