EPL: Kolo Toure Takes on New Role at Manchester City

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Manchester City officially confirmed the permanent appointment of Kolo Touré to the backroom staff of manager Pep Guardiola.

This announcement was made via the club's website in the afternoon.

Touré previously served as the first team assistant coach during the club's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer. He will now continue in this capacity on a full-time basis as the Premier League season approaches.

At 44 years of age, Touré is a former professional footballer who represented esteemed clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City. Last season, he held the position of Assistant Lead Coach with Manchester City's Under-18 team.

In this role, Touré collaborated with Lead Coach Oliver Reiss and contributed to the team's success in securing the Premier League Under-18 North title.

Kolo Abib Touré, born on 19 March 1981, is an Ivorian professional football manager and a former player. He commenced his career as a defender with ASEC Mimosas before transferring to Arsenal, an English club, in 2002.

During his tenure at Arsenal, he made a total of 326 appearances and was integral to the squad that achieved the remarkable unbeaten league season in 2003–2004, known as the 'Invincibles.'

In 2009, he joined Manchester City, where in 2010, his younger brother Yaya Touré also became a member of the team, contributing to the club's first league title in 44 years. In 2013, Touré signed with Liverpool.

He is recognized as one of only ten players to have won the Premier League with two different clubs, having claimed the title with both Arsenal and Manchester City. Additionally, he secured the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish League Cup while playing for Celtic. To date, he holds the record for the most Premier League appearances by an African player, with a total of 353 matches.

Touré is the second-most capped player for the Ivory Coast national team, having made 120 appearances from 2000 to 2015. He represented his country in the FIFA World Cup tournaments of 2006, 2010, and 2014. Furthermore, Touré participated in seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments between 2002 and 2015, where he notably helped the national team secure the runner-up position in 2006 and 2012, and achieve victory in 2015.
