Nigeria’s D’Tigress Clinches Afrobasket Final Berth with Victory Against Senegal

The Nigerian national women's basketball team secured a victory against Senegal with a score of 75-68 in a highly competitive match referred to as the "final before the final," held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Senegal initially established an 8-point lead at the commencement of the fourth quarter. However, under the leadership of Rena Wakama, the Nigerian team demonstrated exceptional resilience, ultimately defeating the silver medalists from the previous AfroBasket by a margin of 7 points. Cierra Dillard emerged as the standout performer for Senegal, contributing 26 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, which facilitated her team’s success in outscoring Nigeria 21-9 during the third quarter.

Conversely, Ezinne Kalu, who recorded 19 points in the game, played a pivotal role in ensuring Nigeria’s triumph over Senegal, a team they have not lost to since 2011. Kalu successfully intercepted the ball from Lena Timera and executed a two-point shot. Additionally, a hook shot by Victory Macaulay provided Nigeria with a significant 69-66 lead.

In the final three minutes, the Nigerian team outscored Senegal 10-3, thus securing their place in the final of the competition.
