Benue: Governor Hycinth Alia Inaugurates Special Advisers and Board Chairmen

The Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inaugurated two Special Advisers, four Board Chairmen, and members of various boards, institutions, and statutory commissions in the state.

At the ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House in Makurdi, Governor Alia urged the new officials to uphold the principles of integrity, diligence, and commitment in the execution of their responsibilities.

In his address, Governor Alia extended congratulations to the appointees and emphasized the importance of their roles in advancing the state’s development. He stated that their actions and decisions would significantly impact the trajectory of Benue State. “The individuals standing before you have been tested and are well-acquainted with the state’s needs. The assignments that you are about to undertake are crucial; they hold the potential to either enhance or hinder the progress of our state. A serious approach to your duties is imperative, as Benue requires dedicated individuals such as yourselves to mend what has been fractured,” asserted the Governor.

The Governor underscored that each appointee bears the responsibility of serving a population exceeding seven million citizens and must, therefore, endeavor to embody the aspirations of the populace through transparency, humility, and accountability. He reiterated his administration's commitment to fostering good governance, stimulating economic advancement, and revitalizing state institutions.

“Political considerations must not infiltrate our economic policies. Governance must be our central focus. It is essential to revise our perspective on the state; it transcends individuals such as Father Alia or any specific appointee; it encompasses the interests of the seven million residents of Benue,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Governor Alia called upon the newly appointed officials to promote a culture of maintenance, restore the respect owed to senior citizens, and collaborate effectively to enhance the state’s reputation as a premier entity among Nigeria’s federating units. He concluded by urging the appointees to validate the confidence invested in them through their unwavering dedication to their roles, noting that Benue will commemorate its 50th anniversary next February—a pivotal milestone that demands renewed commitment from all stakeholders.

In response on behalf of the appointees, James Tor, who has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Politics, Mobilization, and Special Duties, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the trust bestowed upon them. He pledged full commitment, loyalty, and sincerity in the execution of their responsibilities. “We collectively embrace the clear roadmap and vision articulated by His Excellency for the rapid progress and development of Benue State.
