Full List of Newly Appointed Service Chiefs by President Bola Tinubu

On Friday, October 24, 2025, President Bola Tinubu sacked and immediately appointed new Service Chiefs as part of a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s national security framework.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu confirmed the appointment of former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, to the position of Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

  2. Chief of Army Staff – Major General W. Shaibu
  3. Chief of Air Staff – Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke
  4. Chief of Naval Staff – Rear Admiral I. Abbas
  5. Chief of Defence Intelligence – Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye (retained)

Earlier, President Tinubu articulated that this reshuffle was essential for further fortifying Nigeria’s national security architecture.

He stated, “Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as Chief of Defence Staff; Major General W. Shaibu is designated as Chief of Army Staff; Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes the role of Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas is appointed as the new Chief of Naval Staff, while Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.”

The President expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, with particular recognition of General Musa for what he characterized as their “selfless service and dedicated leadership.”

He urged the newly appointed leaders to promote professionalism and unity within the Armed Forces, asserting, “I charge the new Service Chiefs with the responsibility of strengthening professionalism, vigilance, and unity as they serve our nation with honor.”

Rumors circulating across the Nigerian media suggest that the sacking of the service chiefs was triggered by a recent alleged Coup, which was scheduled to take place on October 1, 2025, and was intended to coincide with the independence parade.
