Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA Restore Calm After Farmers, Herders Clash in Sokoto State

The troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have restored normalcy in the villages of Karangiya and Danjawo, located within the Silame Local Government Area, following a violent confrontation between farmers and herders that occurred on Sunday.

According to an eyewitness, the altercation began around 9 a.m. due to allegations concerning the cultivation of farmlands situated along established cattle routes. The conflict primarily involved Hausa farmers from Karangiya and Fulani herders from Danjawo, escalating into violence before the intervention of security personnel.

The responding troops promptly arrived at the scene to restore order. As a result of the clashes, nine individuals—five farmers and four herders—sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Five of the injured parties received treatment and were subsequently discharged from the Silame General Hospital, while three others continue to receive medical care.

In response to the incident, the Chairman of the Silame Local Government Area has organized an emergency stakeholders' meeting aimed at developing a sustainable resolution to the ongoing dispute. Additionally, enhanced patrols and surveillance measures have been implemented in the affected communities to ensure ongoing peace and stability.
