FIFA Announces New Peace Prize To Be Awarded at World Cup Draw in Washington

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced its intention to establish a peace prize, which will be awarded for the first time during the World Cup draw scheduled for December 5 in Washington, D.C., United States.

This award, termed the FIFA Peace Prize, aims to "recognize exceptional actions for peace," as stated by the governing body of soccer on Wednesday.

However, FIFA President Gianni Infantino refrained from revealing whether President Donald Trump would be the inaugural recipient of the award when questioned about it. Infantino stated, "On the 5th of December, you will see," during his address at the America Business Forum in Miami, shortly after President Trump spoke at the same event.

Earlier on Wednesday, Infantino emphasized the importance of acknowledging those who tirelessly work towards resolving conflicts and fostering unity in a world that is increasingly unsettled and divided. FIFA disclosed that this award, which Infantino will present annually, will be given "on behalf of fans from all around the world."

Despite considerable advocacy from fellow Republicans, numerous world leaders, and Trump himself, he was overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize last month. Infantino expressed a transparent acknowledgment of the close relationship he shares with President Trump in his remarks. He stated, "I am fortunate to have a great relationship with President Trump, whom I regard as a close friend. He has been exceedingly helpful in all our endeavors relating to the World Cup. He possesses remarkable energy, which I greatly admire. He acts on his words and expresses his thoughts, often articulating what many individuals may hesitate to voice. This is a significant aspect of his success."

FIFA has further strengthened its ties to Trump by appointing his daughter, Ivanka Trump, to the board of a $100 million education initiative funded partially by sales from 2026 World Cup tickets.

According to Infantino, the World Cup draw and the corresponding presentation of the peace prize are anticipated to attract approximately one billion viewers worldwide.
