Sim Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has distanced himself from any campaign materials that purport to promote his candidacy for the 2027 elections.
Fubara stated that he did not authorize the production of campaign caps and shirts for the upcoming election. While addressing his supporters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, the suspended governor emphasized his desire for peace in order to foster growth.
His remarks followed President Bola Tinubu's resolution of the political crisis in Rivers State. This political turmoil, which involved a conflict with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, resulted in Fubara's suspension for a period of six months.
President Tinubu also declared a state of emergency in the region; however, the situation was resolved last week during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Fubara remarked, “I was quite upset. Someone forwarded to me a video showing the production of campaign materials—caps and shirts—intended for the 2027 general elections. I am not aware of this initiative, nor did I authorize it or direct anyone to proceed. We must all recognize that we have made significant efforts, and what we require now is a commitment to peace in order to advance our objectives.”
