Yelewata Attack: Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Important Visitor Guidelines

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency has issued guidelines for individuals and organizations wishing to contribute or to visit the victims of the recent attacks by Fulani herdsmen in Yelewata, who are currently taking refuge at the International Market in Makurdi, the state capital.

On June 13, 2025, it was reported that armed assaults by Fulani herdsmen occurred in the town of Yelewata, located in Makurdi. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of over 200 lives and left more than 50 people injured.

In response to security and safety concerns, the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has issued the following guidelines for individuals who wish to donate or visit the Yelewata victims at the Intentional market in Makurdi.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Kindly note the following and strictly adhere to as violation to these guides will not be tolerated:

  1. Movement in and out of the Camp will be restricted from 5:30am to 6:00pm.
  2. All donations are to be registered and submitted to SEMA Camp Managers.
  3. Cooked foods of any kind are not allowed.
  4. Food and Non-Food items are allowed and are to be handed over to Benue SEMA for distribution.
