NYSC Pays Outstanding Arrears After Two-Month Hiatus

NYSC Pays Outstanding Arrears Following Two-Month Payment Suspension

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially resumed the disbursement of arrears as of Wednesday, September 3, 2025. This marks the first payment following a two-month hiatus since the previous disbursement on June 3, 2025.

On April 5, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured that corps members who have recently completed their service will be eligible to receive the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance. During the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop held in Abuja, Brigadier General Nafiu stated, "Once funds are allocated to us to settle the arrears, we will ensure timely payment. Our corps members who have recently concluded their service will benefit, as we possess their bank details."

He reiterated the government’s commitment to this initiative, assuring, "Nigerians should not be concerned about this matter, as the government is both accountable and responsive to their needs." This development was corroborated by a former corps member who wished to remain anonymous. The individual expressed, "After a two-month wait, I did not anticipate receiving another payment notification. However, it is not solely about the financial aspect; it is also about the acknowledgment of our contributions."

The payment of arrears, which covers the duration from July 2024 to March 2025, follows widespread dissatisfaction regarding the delayed implementation of the allowance increase, a measure introduced by the Federal Government as part of its commitment to alleviating economic challenges faced by Nigerian youth.
